User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Phone became hot and died after a few months
I owned this phone for 4 months and loved it. It worked great and made managing my work emails and calendar much easier. However the phone became very hot one day and completely died. I took it back to the Sprint store and they tried a new battery and it would not work. They said that the phone is completely fried and I would have to get a new one. I am very disappointed with this phone.

1 Star It became very hot and died forever after only 6 weeks.
This phone seemed fine for the most part, but after just six weeks it became very hot suddenly, the battery showed it was drained and it died. The verizon store put in a new battery and the same thing happened immediately. Verizon will only replace with a refurbished phone since it is outside the 30 day guarantee. I hope this does not happen again. It is a major time committment to get a new phone and add all the apps, calendar items, etc. I am very disappointed with my first blackberry. I wish I didn’t have a two year committment with verizon!!

5 Stars For the Price its my Favorite Blackberry So Far
Used to have a Pearl with numerous problems, finally had enough of it and decided to upgrade. Sprint has a deal going on right now where you get [...] for your old phone, and since I was over a year due, I got a $[...] rebate too. So my opinion may be a bit skewed as I got this phone for free. Gotta be honest I HATED Blackberry and didn’t understand the attraction to the company when I had my Pearl as it was over-overwhelmingly disappointing since day 1.

Well I’m happy to say that I am probably a permanent fan of the BB thanks to this phone. 1st: Thank god BB got rid of the ball, as the sensor-tracker is 100 times better. My ball would go bad, get dirty, etc. This is probably the best tracker I’ve seen on any phone including the iPhone. I love the BB Messenger capabilities, love the qwerty pad, love the speed of the phone. I have yet to find one flaw regarding the mechanics of this phone. Have downloaded 2 apps thus far for free–Pandora Internet Radio and Google Maps which are must haves (don’t even bother using the Maps app loaded on the phone, its terrible) and both have worked like a charm.

The only thing I miss is the flash for the camera, as it seems my Pearl took excellent photos compared to a lot of other phones. I haven’t had great luck with this one so far, but like I said, its a very small issue compared to the other flaws that have gone away since my upgrade.

Not sure how this phone works on other networks, but Sprint is EXCELLENT. I was with AT&T for years and hated it, and I will never understand its popularity except for the fact its the only network with the never-ending praised, over-rated over-priced iPhone. Sprint may not be popular with the “hip” kids these days (but who cares) however I have nothing but good things to say about Sprint, as its coverage and its service are the best I’ve ever had.

If I had the dough, I might saddle up for the Bold, as it seems to be just like this phone but has a couple better features like a better operating system, a higher mega-pixel camera, better speakers for music, ability for a 32G card, and might last better in the long run. But again, the going price for that is $[...], and how can I complain or compare the 2 when I got mine for free? This Curve is probably the best phone deal of my life.

If you’re a person who hasn’t owned a Blackberry before and you’re looking to get into it without breaking the bank, this IS the phone I recommend. I have friends who have BB’s and like I said I’ve owned one previously too, and this is BY FAR the best one I’ve come upon for the price. These things will be unstoppable when they start supporting Flash, which will blow iPhone out of the water, so hopefully isn’t too far off.

You will love this phone!

5 Stars Reliable, Easy To Use, Fast, Loud, Excellent Sprint Coverage and Service
Besides the lack of a camera flash and a couple other small annoyances, this phone is the perfect entry level BB for myself and my friends. Blackberry has definitely produced a winner in the mass consumer market for their phones.

This phone has pretty much all the features that its competitors have along with its storied and well developed blackberry e-mail system. The fact that it can be had for less than $50 after mail in rebate is an excellent value.

If you’re looking for a phone that keeps you organized, connected to all your family and friends, entertained, and more, this is a great phone. The e-mail, contact lists, and the way all messages are combined into shared boxes is truly efficient and easy to use. The keyboard is responsive and fast..and much better than any touchscreen out there. The only annoyance was the sometimes short battery life, but this is remedied by turning off the WiFi and Bluetooth radios and closing extra applications. In terms of cellphone service coverage, Sprint has truly vastly improved over the last 5 years. I along with my friends took our BB 8530 phones up and down the East Coast and had excellent service the entire way: e-mailing, chatting, texting, sending pics, receiving pics, facebooking, etc. There were a handful of dead spots, but coverage and reliability was rivaling Verizon Wireless (former VZW subscriber of 10 years!)

The fact that unlimited use of their voice command GPS network (LIVE traffic updates and rerouting!) is truly amazing and at least worth $200 in my opinion. Their Sprint TV network is not bad either with various channels that include LIVE ESPN.

Please be aware that Sprint’s Family plans are the best currently on the market. To be able to have unlimited mobile to mobile calling, unlimited texting, unlimited data, for less than $45 per person per month is freaking amazing. If you don’t want to burn your cash on flashier smartphones, get this phone. You won’t regret it :)

4 Stars Entry Level Blackberry for New Users
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1WW0YMYHWZS7O I picked up the Blackberry Curve 8520 with my corporate discount and walked away with a nice phone at a very reasonable price. I have to say that I really enjoy the web browser on the new BB. You can zoom in & out with ease. I thought no browser could compare to the iPod Safari besides the Android G1, but after getting this device - I can safely say that this browser is also one of the best. Its right behind the safari and G1. Prior models were confined to small screens, thirty-five dollar internet only data plans, and no ability to zoom in or out. You were subjected to a small screen and reading small text till your eyes was squinting like grandmas.

Pros:

Nice price for new smartphone users

Nice fashion colors that only the CURVE series has

3.5 MM headjack

Nice form factor

New OS (ONly 5.0 OS for SPrint and Verizon users)

Decent call quality (No issues yet)

Excellent new broswer

Mini SD up to 16GB (Wish it was 32GB)

Use your songs as ringers

Wi-Fi

Personal Email (Up to 10 accounts can be added)

IM

BB Meesenger

BB App World

Full HTML Web Browser (Sometimes)

Excellent Multimedia Player (Accepts every format possible)

Crystal clear screen for playing videos

Includes 2 chargers (Wall Charger & USB charger)

Includes ear phones

Cons:

For long time BB users, this device is really just a cosmetic upgrade with a new OS (Flashier Icons)

Micro USB (No more Mini USB)

No Flash on the camera

Only one theme

Feels like a plastic toy

No threaded text messaging

Poor screen resolution

Non RIMM Consumer Changes Mind!

No 3G (ONly 3G for Sprint and Verizon users)

Good entry level smartphones for new users who want to save without paying the high price. However, Verizon has pricey data and text messenging plans which are a requirement. Its hard to justify the plan prices for such an average entry level device.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Love the phone but not the OS
The only bad thing about this phone is that its a crappy ass windows phone. I recently hacked it to put android on it and i hafta say i am quietly impressed XD. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PHONE FOR ANY 1.

3 Stars nice hardware bad os
this phone looks great. it has great features and the screen size is great. as far as windows mobile 6.5 goes. it isnt for me. htc tried with their sense ui by adding cool effects and their htc widgets but it isnt enough. the wm apps are pricey and useless and the phone itself gets boring after awhile. if ur new to smart phones i recommend but if your coming from an iphone or an android device dont get this. but there is a way to flash android on this phone and running android on this phone is amazing.

1 Star no bad but not great
download anything you can to make this phone better after you buy it out the box it sucks i feel like this was the evo prototype evo is 100 times better but i hate sprint windows mobile is the worse software ever the harsware on this phone is great and could do so much better with something other then windows mobile no dont even think windows mobile 7 will be better never buy a windows phone i want to break my phone over the the heads of the people who made it

5 Stars Love my HD2.
PROS:

I actually got this phone when it first came out. I put a little work into it and wow. I can now play my old Playstation games on my phone. There is a Playstation emulator, FPSCE, that after a bit of work, runs some games perfectly, and some well. I usually play Diablo and Gran Tourismo 2, a couple of my favorite games.

The camera is 5mp. That’s not as much as the 8mp that will be on the new EVO (I believe) but I think it takes great pictures. The flash/ led lights are nice.

Ah, music, I like Nitrogen. It works great. Love the button that turns the screen off. Also, I can play my mp3’s and switch over to playing playstation.

I love the standard headphone jack. Great sound with my headphones. Usually need to turn the volume down a bit.

Ah, love watching mp4’s. Great screen.

Basically there is software there you can find where you can turn your playstation games, dvd’s, cd’s, etc. into enjoyable media for your phone. This is what Iphone can’t touch. I had an HTC Touch, the one from Eagle Eye, and used to play Gameboy games and SNES games but it was a bit slow.

My wife got an I Touch for Christmas… Spent like 60 bucks on games and got bored with it after a couple of weeks. App stores are nice but the money racks up quickly. I’d much prefer to play my old games and such.

Cons:

I was having trouble getting signal, but Tmobile reset my connection and it’s working fine again. They suggest turning the phone off once a day for about 5 seconds. They also went over how to manually select a network.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head… oh, good battery life, and an external battery is a great add on.

2 Stars I really wanted to love this phone, but Windows ruined it for me!
I switched from Blackberry pearl to HD2 which I was really excited about, but Windows ruined it in many ways.

P.S: I am not a mac fan-boy, in fact I hate apple products. All I own is a PC and a laptop running Windows 7, so this review is FAR FROM BIASED.

Con’s:

1> This phone has so much potential but windows seems to have locked lot of things like the home screen tabs, Registry settings, no Mp3 ringtones, videos on Opera browser, Task Manager options and so on. The problem is its not impossible, you can just play with registry and problem solved. But you have to download some applications to edit registry, and know what you are doing. Why not just give it to us, rather than making us all figure out?

2> You upgrade the device and you lose all the data and settings, I mean ALL. That’s lame Microsoft, can’t you just add a backup feature to your ActiveSync junk?

3> Its not available for Win mobile 7 upgrade, which could have been amazing because I have heard really good reviews about it. But HD2 doesn’t meet the “hardware requirements” for Win mobile 7.

4> You have to use both the hands for using this phone efficiently. Or have a large hand. Ex. The browser has address bar way on the top but navigation is way on the bottom, makes it difficult to use it with one hand.

5> I have to click so many different places just to get my address book up. Which unfortunately I cant even add in my home screen tabs.

6> THERE IS NO EXIT BUTTON FOR ANYTHING. If I click back or “X” on the top right corner it doesn’t mean quit in Windows mobile 6.5. It mean minimize. I have to go to Task Manager every time to quit applications. Which drains my battery in case I forgot.

7> The hardware is so powerful but Windows media player will not play most of the videos by default. I had to download some other freeware program, which got unistalled when I did an upgrade.

8> When your battery is almost dead, it will shutdown the phone all together, so no access to contacts no access to time, alarm, message or directions. It doesn’t let you run on really bare minimum required resources.

9> I can’t see the timing of a call placed or missed or received. I can’t even see the clock when I am setting an alarm, I have to go back to main screen to check the time again.

10> The sound quality is OK, maybe its just me because my pearl(8200) has a speaker and a WOOFER, which is way better than HD2’s speaker.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

Pro’s:

Its really COOL. It looks very smart.

The camera is super awesome. I have not owned a cellphone with this great of a camera.

I like the feel of it, not heavy.

After you get over the coolness part it all comes down to usability, where it severely lacks(at least compared to a blackberry).

In conclusion, it could have been really better if they would have TESTED the OS before just shipping it out with this amazing phone. I am really dissapointed in HTC’s decision to go with Windows mobile 6.5. When windows 7 was just around the corner( they could have struck a deal with Microsoft to support HD2 on the contract).
